From time to time we are asked to introduce people via email. We all have our own way of handling this, but for some reason I haven’t quite nailed a preferred format yet. I really enjoy connecting people and lately I feel like Twitter is a much better medium to use. Perhaps this is because it’s an inherently public forum that encourages connections and mentions. Sometimes I even want to introduce two people I don’t know with a Tweet.
The other day I started reading The Republic of Tea and thought of two people who might also enjoy it; Kevin Rose (digg, Revision 3) and Gary Vaynerchuk. I know Kevin is a huge fan of tea and Gary actually mentioned his affinity for the beverage is his dishKarma ultimate meal video. I know at least one of them has thought about the tea business and I bet they would both enjoy connecting with the author/founder of The Republic of Tea.
In this case email isn’t really an option, or appropriate, since I don’t really “know” any of them. However, a Tweet mentioning all three of them is likely to accomplish the same thing.
Therefore today I’ve decided to begin using the hash tag TwitterIntro. I plan to use this when I find people (know them or not) that I think should know each other. Who doesn’t like discovering people with similar interest or making connections that could be mutually beneficial? I know I do. I did a search and noticed this hash tag has been used one time prior to this by Jason Eagan (@jasoneagan) the Artistic Director of the Ars Nova, a cool looking theater and production company based in NYC (@arsnova).

So, inspired by the book I mentioned earlier (thanks Marla, it’s a great read so far!), and this new formula for introducing people, I will be posting this Tweet:

@KevinRose and @GaryVee meet @melziegler #TwitterIntro

    I love this idea. It's a great use of the medium and helps promote community building. So, in the spirit of introductions, I'll be posting this on Twitter: @BradySadler meet @PortsmouthTea #TwitterIntro

    So great to see you again at #wcbos
